Goal of the Year

For those of you who haven't seen it and for those who have seen it and want to see it again, this is probably the best goal of the regular season of the NHL this year.
In a season that had a lot of spectacular goals, Marek Malik and Jussi Jokinen's amazing shootout goals and Jason Spezza's dazzling dangling come to mind, Alexander Ovechkin's goal against the Phoenix Coyotes is right at the top of the list. Ovechkin had a number of great goals this year but this one was definitely the best.

Some guys have scored goals while lying on the ice. Some have scored while facing away from the net. Lots of guys have scored while falling or being taken down. Ovechkin managed to do all of those in this one particular goal. Check it out here:

Marek Malik's shootout goal was a favourite of mine too, mainly because it was a fairly cheeky move to do in a close shootout. It was also incredibly smooth, but the best part had to be his deadpan reaction after he scored. Check it out here:

Of course, none can match Bobby Orr's iconic flying-through-the-air goal but there were some dandy ones.
